VICIdial Price: What the Open-Source Dialer Actually Costs to Run

“VICIdial is free” is true about the licence and misleading about the budget. This guide separates the software from the operating cost, so you can build a total workflow cost model instead of a software line item.

  • Cost categories, not invented licence prices
  • Hosted versus self-managed compared structurally
  • iGents pricing kept separate from dialer cost
  • Total workflow cost as the number that matters

3–5 day trial · No credit card · ~15-minute deployment

No numbers published here

This guide deliberately publishes no VICIdial prices. Hosting, telecom and support rates vary by provider, region and configuration, and a stale figure would produce a worse model than none. Quote each category from your own providers.

Section 01

The software is open source

VICIdial is open-source software. You can download it and run it without paying a licence fee, which is a genuine advantage and the reason it is so widely deployed on outbound floors.

What that fact does not tell you is what the year costs. The licence is one line in a cost model that has at least five, and the other four are where the money goes.

Section 02

Open source does not mean zero operating cost

Each of these is a real, recurring line. None of them is covered by the licence being free.

Infrastructure

Servers or cloud instances sized for concurrent channels, plus storage for recordings.

  • Scales with concurrency
  • Recording retention adds up

Telecom

Carrier or SIP trunk costs, per-minute rates and caller ID provisioning.

  • Often the largest variable line
  • Rate varies by destination

Administration

The person who configures campaigns, applies updates and fixes the instance when it breaks.

  • Salaried or contracted
  • Required either way

Support

Paid support or a contractor on call, unless you can absorb downtime.

  • Priced against downtime risk

Monitoring and security

Uptime monitoring, backups, access control and patching.

  • Easy to defer, expensive to skip

Deliverability management

Caller ID reputation work and number rotation as answer rates degrade.

  • Ongoing, not one-off

Section 03

Hosted versus self-managed

The choice is not really about price, it is about where risk sits. Hosting converts operational risk into a predictable monthly figure. Self-managing keeps the figure lower on paper and puts the risk on your team at the moment something fails mid-campaign.

Add the conversation layer to the model

iGents pricing is per iGents per month and steps down with deployment size. It sits alongside dialer cost, not inside it.

Section 04

iGents pricing sits separately

iGents are not a dialer and do not replace one. VICIdial is the primary confirmed iGents integration, and it continues to handle lists, pacing, caller ID and recordings while iGents operate the connected conversation.

That means iGents pricing is a separate line in your model, priced per iGents per month by deployment size. What it displaces is fronter headcount cost, not dialer cost — which is also why comparing the two directly gives you the wrong answer.

  • Dialer cost: infrastructure, telecom, administration, support
  • iGents cost: per iGents per month, by deployment size
  • Displaced cost: human fronter salary, training and supervision
  • Unchanged cost: verifier and closer headcount

Section 05

Think in total workflow cost

The number that actually decides whether a campaign works is cost per qualified transfer. Reaching it means adding the dialer's running cost, the conversation layer and the human bench together, then dividing by the transfers the campaign produced.

Judged that way, a cheaper dialer configuration that produces fewer qualified transfers is not cheaper, and a fronter layer evaluated on monthly fee alone is being measured on the wrong axis.

Build each line from your own quotes. No figures are published on this page.

FAQ

VICIdial cost questions

Is VICIdial free?

The software is open source and carries no licence fee. Running it involves infrastructure, telecom, administration and support costs.

Why are no prices listed here?

Hosting, telecom and support rates vary by provider, region and configuration. Publishing a figure would produce a worse model than quoting each line yourself.

Is hosted or self-managed cheaper?

It depends on whether you already have administration capacity. Hosting trades a lower baseline for predictability and covered support.

Does adding iGents reduce dialer cost?

No. Dialer cost is unchanged; iGents displace human fronter cost. They are separate lines in the model.

Do iGents work with dialers other than VICIdial?

VICIdial is the primary confirmed integration. Other environments depend on what they expose and are assessed during scoping.

What is the right number to compare vendors on?

Cost per qualified transfer across the whole workflow, not the monthly fee of any single component.

Model it against a live campaign
